Students Drive Change Through Schools Parliament

A group of Student Leadership Team members represented our school at Liverpool Schools Parliament, a city-wide initiative that empowers young people to have a direct voice in local democracy.

The team attended a planning meeting with young leaders from Bluecoat and St Margaret’s Academy to shape the first Schools Parliament meeting of the academic year and set priorities for the year ahead. Caroline Scott, Engagement Officer for Child Friendly Liverpool, facilitated the session, encouraging students to share ideas, challenge each other, and collaborate on meaningful initiatives.

Our Year 10 and 11 students took the lead at the Schools Parliament meeting for students from schools across Liverpool at Croxteth Hall. Confident and composed, they kicked off the event by leading the introductory activity and collecting feedback from attending schools.

The day gave students a powerful platform to debate topics that matter to them most, from equality and mental health to local community priorities. They also had the chance to exchange views directly with key city leaders, including Paul Olubayo, Anti-Racism Action Plan Lead, and the Lord Mayor, Councillor Barbara Ann Murray.

Headteacher Ms. Vincent said: “I’m incredibly proud of how our students represented the school and themselves. They showed real leadership, maturity, and a willingness to shape the world around them — exactly the kind of forward-thinking, active citizenship we aim to foster at Childwall Sports and Science Academy.”

Reflecting on the experience, one Year 10 student added: “It felt empowering to have our voices heard by decision-makers. We can actually influence what happens in our city — and that’s inspired us to keep pushing for change.”

Well done to Year 10 students Rooney, Lily and Imran and Year 11 student Toby-Jo for your excellent work and also Caroline O’Neill, Families Programme Manager and Child Friendly City Co-ordinator for Liverpool City Council, who facilitated the event with Caroline Scott.
