Childwall Academy Students      Build A Kinder Future

Childwall Sports and Science Academy has strengthened its commitment to anti-racism education through an ongoing partnership with the Anthony Walker Foundation. Building on the success of last year’s programme—recognised with a Tackling Racism in Schools bronze award—the school is now aiming for silver.
At the heart of the initiative is the active involvement of staff and students. A dedicated Anti-Racism Working Group and Year 8 student ambassadors have been pivotal in delivering campaigns and workshops that tackle racism from within the school community.

The programme began in November 2024 with ambassador training at Merseyside Police’s Training Academy, featuring a powerful address by Dr. Gee Walker MBE, founder of Anthony Walker Foundation and mother of Anthony Walker.

In March, all Year 8 students participated in a workshop delivered by Anthony Walker Foundation, exploring microaggressions, unconscious bias, and the power of language. The interactive session helped students recognise subtle forms of discrimination and how to challenge them constructively.

“We believe that educating young people about racism early is essential to building a more inclusive and equal society,” said Judith Agis, Tackling Racism in Schools Awards Manager.

Year 8 ambassadors are now leading student voice sessions with Year 7 pupils, encouraging open discussion around their experiences and ideas for positive change. Headteacher Ms. Vincent explained: “Through the Anthony Walker Foundation’s support, we are empowering students to challenge discrimination and build a culture of respect.” Student ambassador Annabelle added, “I’m proud to be part of this programme which gives us the confidence to stand up for what’s right.”
