Creative Arts

Creative Arts is a Faculty that aims to allow all pupils to develop themselves as independent learners who will create expressive and vibrant work within our three subject areas. Pupils will work on many projects relating to both social and cultural themes to help broaden their own learning of many world issues. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and skills within the disciplines of Art, Music and Drama whilst also gaining skills from subjects outside of the faculty such as History, English and Science. Pupils will be given the opportunity to work with outside agencies within the subject areas including – Musicians, Artists and Actors to add further context to their own class learning.

Within Creative Arts we believe that all our pupils deserve the opportunity to experience all aspects of the Arts and are passionate to deliver the best quality teaching and learning within a vibrant environment for the pupils to learn. We offer a variety of lunch time and after school clubs available to allow further access to the Arts leading to whole school musical and theatrical productions. Creativity is a vital aspect for successful employment with many Universities and employers looking for pupils to show they can ‘think outside the box.

Art

Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Drama

Drama enables pupils to explore, develop and express ideas and concepts which will help them make sense of reality. Drama is a life skill and a creative art form. It helps pupils develop their ability to use voice, movement, gesture and facial expression, in acting, mime, dance drama and improvisation. They can express and manage their thoughts and feelings – shared and experienced – while working in a safe and controlled  environment. The development of these skills encourages self confidence and  self awareness. It promotes the development of the individual in a group  context: roles and ideas are negotiated, problems solved and decisions made together.
